DIY Deer Jewelry Holder

So the other day I was online surfing the web for some really good jewelry holders and I came across this one and I was instantly in love. I don't know what it was about it that screamed Buy Me!!
Was it the color or the deer itself I have no clue.
And then I saw the price and I was all like. I ain't gonna buy all that. Do I look like London Tipton?!.

So I decided to just DIY it. Smart me!!

Well for those of you who have no clue as to wear to get a deer head calm down you don't need to replicate the exact same thing. I have some other ideas covered, trust me.
Luckily for me I had one of those ancient cuckoo clocks which isn't working anymore so I just borrowed the deer head, emphasis on the "borrowed".

The list of supplies I used for this DIY is as follows:

  • Deer Head - Already had it.
  • Glue -  I used Fevicol just cause that's what I had in hand, but mod podge or Elmer's glue works just as fine.
  • Brushes - In case you want to paint your deer and the stand.
  • Spray Paint / Acrylic Paints (optional) - I didn't use this because my deer was an earthy brown and so was the base which I had, it went well with my room theme so I left it as it was, But you can paint it to suit your requirements.
  • Base - This could be anything you want it to be, I know Walmart and Micheal's have wooden boards for cheap, you could use that or just settle for a fancy saucer or tray as well, anything that you can comfortably work with. Also it depends where you want to place it. I wanted it to be just sitting by my dresser so I used a little tea saucer which was also the same brown.

Step 1:

I didn't do this step but I'm explaining anyways; Paint your base as well as deer head. Let it dry for at least 8 hours. Since mine is not actual wood it wouldn't take much time. But if it is pure wood it would take time since the paint seeps into the material. So let it dry properly before attaching to the base.

Step 2:

I didn't need to do this step either but if any of you are planning to use spray paint it would be a great idea to use Krylon Matte Finish or Grumbacher Hyplar Gloss Varnish Spray. It helps set the whole thing properly.

Step 3:

Glue your deer head to the base using glue. I actually would recommend using a good glue that stays like really strong so it won't come off in case you move your jewelry holder some place else. I have a feeling glue gun would work really well. But it worked fine for me by just using fevicol which is basically american Elmer's or PVA glue.

Step 4:

Let it dry overnight, Just because you don't want the deer to fall down by all the weight of your necklaces that would be terrible.

Step 5:

I decided in the end that I wanted to stick my base to the wall so I went ahead and attached the base to the wall that way the antlers were facing in an appropriate way for my jewelry to be hung.

Step 6:

Go ahead and hang your favorite bits and pieces and glam up your dresser or wall!!

Here is a picture on how it could have looked. :)

Do try it out and let me know and Stay tuned for an easier diy jewelry holder for those who do not have a deer head. xo

Okkkkkkay :) Well I haven't done this one yet but I'm pretty sure this is way easier for those of you having a tough time getting a deer head.

For this DIY, you will need:
  • A wooden stick - Go grab a tree branch from outdoors those things are so usable.
  • Nails - Ask your Dads for a hand in this.
  • A Hammer -  Obviously you need this, ain't nobody gonna try putting nails through a wooden branch using their bare hands, that's suicidal.
  • Spray paint -  Again this is optional. Its a nice touch but there is nothing better than an earthy touch to your room.
  • A piece of String- To hold up your branch
And you are set!!

Step 1:

Get your stick and lay it out in front of you ask a grown up to help you if you are afraid of getting nails stuck into your hands. Trust me that's just scary. I would recommend you to measure out your branch first and then space the nails accordingly so that there is enough room for the jewelry to breathe.

Step 2:

Hammer your nails at the correct markings and then tie a piece of string at both the ends of the branch to make a sort of loop such that you cant carry the branch using the string just like a handbag ( check the picture for reference)

Step 3:

Now you can Spray paint your master piece, its best you spray paint it altogether; meaning once the nails are in place this way it would look more complete. Go according to your room scheme or if you want it to stand out use bright colors.

Step 4:

Use another nail on the wall to hang up your jewelry branch holder. and Voila!!
Its complete.

(Another good way it to give an old unused hangover a makeover by using fish hooks and use the end product as a jewelry holder.)
